Our Team

At Bluegrass Dermatology, our-board certified dermatologists and experienced nurse practitioner and physician assistants are highly trained in the field of dermatology. Our providers and staff work together as a team with the goal of providing the best care possible delivered in the most pleasant way possible.

Dana R. Black, MD

Dr. Black, a native of London, Kentucky, received her biology degree from the University of Kentucky, graduating summa cum laude. She worked in a microbiology research lab prior to attending the University of Louisville School of Medicine.

 

After performing an internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Louisville, she completed her dermatology residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania. During her training, Dr. Black was involved in several research projects and has published papers in dermatology journals. Her professional interests include general dermatology, cosmetic dermatology, and cutaneous surgery. She is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the Kentucky Medical Association, and the Lexington Medical Society.

 

Outside of clinical practice, Dr. Black enjoys spending time with her family and serving in her church.

Patricia H. Buker, MD

Dr. Patricia Buker is originally from Michigan and graduated with honors from the University of Michigan. She earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio in 1984 and completed her residency in Family Practice at Eastern Virginia Medical Authority. After 13 years of working as a family practitioner, she completed additional training and joined Bluegrass Dermatology in 1998 as a cosmetic specialist. Her clinical interests span a wide variety of cosmetic treatments including laser therapies, sclerotherapy (treatment of spider veins), fillers and botulinum toxin type A (Botox and Xeomin) administration.

 

In her spare time, Dr. Buker enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and doing needlework and stained glass projects.

Tandy S. Repass, MD

Dr. Repass is a native of Georgetown, Kentucky and is an alumnus of Transylvania University.  She graduated summa cum laude from Transylvania with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and minors in Chemistry and Psychology. She attended the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, where she was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and graduated with High Distinction. After completing a preliminary year in Internal Medicine at the University of Kentucky, she completed her Dermatology residency at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.  She has practiced in Central Kentucky since 2013 and is excited to be part of the Bluegrass Dermatology team.

 

Dr. Repass is a Diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology, and is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the Society for Pediatric Dermatology, and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. She has been a guest lecturer at the Skinternal Medicine Conference and the Kentucky Association of Nurse Practitioners and Nurse-Midwives Annual Coalition Conference.

 

Dr. Repass sees patients of all ages.  Her clinical interests include general, pediatric, and surgical dermatology.  Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family hiking, riding bikes, kayaking, playing soccer, and traveling.

Carol Buker Thompson, MD

Dr. Thompson grew up in Lexington, KY. She is the daughter of Drs. John and Patricia Buker. She graduated with honors from the University of Kentucky (Biology) and Eastern Kentucky University (Painting) prior to entering the medical field.

 

She earned her medical degree from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, where she was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She graduated with high distinction. Dr. Thompson remained at the University of Kentucky for her internship in internal medicine. She completed her dermatology residency at the University of Louisville, where she also served as chief resident. She completed her fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery at the University of Louisville under the tutelage of Dr. Timothy Brown.

 

Dr. Thompson is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American College of Mohs Surgery, the Kentucky Medical Association, the Lexington Medical Society, and is a Diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology. She has performed research in the field of dermatology and has published several papers in dermatology journals.

 

In her free time, Dr. Thompson enjoys spending time with her family, painting, and doing craft projects.

Julena Adams, PA-C

Julena Adams is a native of Grayson, Kentucky. She attended the University of Kentucky and graduated in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree of Health Sciences in Physician Assistant Studies.  She is board-certified by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants and is licensed by the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure. She has over a decade of experience in general dermatology and an additional 16 years experience in family medicine.  Her clinical focus is in general dermatology including acne, eczema, psoriasis, melasma and hair loss. Outside of the office, Ms. Adams enjoys cooking, hiking, and spending time with her family.

Lauren Maupin, APRN

Lauren Maupin is an AANP board certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She graduated with an Associate Degree in Nursing from Eastern Kentucky University in 2009 and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 2013. After working as a Registered Nurse in Neuro/Telemetry, ICU, Surgery, and Interventional Research, she decided to return to school where she earned her Master of Science degree from Xavier University.  Lauren has over 4 years of experience in general Dermatology. She has a particular interest in enhancing patient education and treatment of chronic inflammatory skin conditions. Lauren resides in Lexington, KY and enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and her cats.

Claire Sexton, PA-C

Claire Sexton is a native of Shelbyville, Kentucky who now lives in Lexington with her husband and two dogs, Iris and Reggie. While still in high school, Claire began working with Dr. Carol Thompson in Louisville. When she started college at EKU, she rejoined Dr. Thompson and worked as a medical assistant at Bluegrass Dermatology until she decided she wanted to further her education. She has always had the desire to serve our patients as a provider, so she decided to attend the University of Kentucky Physician Assistant Program. During her time in the UKPA program, Claire trained at Cincinnati Childrens Dermatology and here at Bluegrass Dermatology. Claire is board-certified by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants and is licensed by the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure.

 

Claire enjoys seeing patients of all ages. Her clinical interests include general and pediatric dermatology. Outside of the office, Claire enjoys spending time with her dogs and family, strength training, and watching sports.

Jessica Smith, APRN

Jessica Smith is an AANP board-certified Nurse Practitioner. She is a native of Winchester, KY and has practiced dermatology in central Kentucky since 2016. She attended Eastern Kentucky University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in 2010. She returned to EKU and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Master’s degree in 2016.

Jessica provides general dermatology care to patients of all ages, including skin cancer screenings. Her special interests include skin cancer treatment, acne, eczema, and addressing skin conditions in patients on the Autism spectrum.

Outside of work, Jessica enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and two sons.

John L. Buker MD, Bluegrass Dermatology

John L. Buker, MD (Retired)

Dr. John Buker, a native of Mansfield, Ohio, graduated with honors from Ohio Wesleyan University. He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio in 1982. He served as class president, was elected president of the Medical Student Section of the Ohio State Medical Association, and was recognized at graduation with several awards for leadership and service. Dr. Buker completed a Psychiatry internship at the Naval Hospital in San Diego then entered Flight Surgeon training in Pensacola, Florida where he learned to pilot helicopters. Dr. Buker completed three years of dermatology residency at the Naval Hospital in San Diego and was certified by the American Board of Dermatology in 1990. He completed fellowship training in Mohs Micrographic Surgery at the University of Tennessee in Memphis, under the tutelage of Dr. Rex Amonette. During his career with the Navy, he served as Director of Dermatologic Surgery at the National Naval Medical Center (Bethesda Naval Hospital).

Dr. Buker has served as a voluntary assistant professor with the Department of Surgery at the University of Kentucky. He is also a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American College of Mohs Surgery, the Skin Cancer Foundation, the Kentucky Medical Association, and the Lexington Medical Society. Dr. Buker has authored chapters for several dermatology textbooks dealing with skin cancers, skin cancer surgery, and perioperative emergencies.

Dr. Buker is an avid fisherman, woodworker, and reader, and enjoys spending time with his grandchildren. Dr. John Buker retired in 2022, but remains involved with professional organizations and Bluegrass Dermatology.

Donna E. Roth MD, Bluegrass Dermatology

Donna E. Roth, MD (Retired)

Dr. Donna Roth is a native of Syracuse, New York where she attended the College of Environmental Science and Forestry and graduated with high honors in Biochemistry. She then worked in a biochemistry research laboratory for a year before attending medical school at S.U.N.Y. – Upstate Medical University, where she attained membership in Alpha Omega Alpha, a medical honor society.

After graduating medical school in 1986, she completed an internship year in internal medicine, also at Upstate. Her Dermatology training at the University of Louisville was completed in 1990. She became a diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology also in 1990.

Dr. Roth served as an assistant instructor for dermatology residents at the University of Louisville until 1998. She has worked in dermatology private practice in Lexington since 1990. She has represented the Central Kentucky Dermatological Society as president. She has authored a number of papers for major dermatology journals and is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the Kentucky Medical Association, and the Lexington Medical Society.

Dr. Roth retired in 2024 and is excited to embrace the next chapter of her life, dedicating more time to her family and enjoying her favorite activities, including yoga, hiking, and traveling.
